Tillotts is a small, fast growing pharmaceutical company based near Basel, in Switzerland.

  HISTORY  
     
 

1960’s          Tillotts Laboratories Limited is founded in the  UK in 1963, as a distributor for herbal gastric ulcer treatments.

1970’s          Tillotts becomes the UK market leader in gastric ulcer treatment. Two new products Asacol and Colpermin are developed.

1980‘s            Tillotts launches Colpermin in the UK in 1981.  In 1986, Asacol launches in the UK and is later divested to GSK.  The rights to Asacol in the Benelux and Italy/Switzerland are also divested. In 1986, with the establishment of Tillotts Pharma AG the business relocates to Ziefen, Switzerland.

1990’s           Asacol is licensed to Procter & Gamble for North America and launches in 1992. Tillotts is acquired by Medeva plc in 1995. In 1999, a management buy-out re-establishes Tillotts as an independent company.

2004              A License Agreement is signed with Tokyo based Zeria for development and commercialisation of Asacol in Japan.

2007              GSK launches Medacalm in Germany, a GSK owned license based on the Tillotts capsule technology.

Tillotts starts research collaboration with the School of Pharmacy, University of London to develop Asacol Next Generation.     

2008              New Management changes at Tillotts: The members of the team that carried out the management-buy-out in 1999 retire from their existing roles from January 2008; Roly Bufton: CEO and Chairman of Tillotts steps down and Thomas A. Tóth, becomes new CEO of Tillotts as of 01.01.2008.  

2009              Japanese company Zeria acquires 100% of Tillotts as of 01.09.2009. http://www.zeria.co.jp/english/index.html

Tillotts continues to operate under prior management from its former corporate offices in Ziefen, near Basel, with a new Board of Directors.

Asacol is launched in Japan (06.12.09) by Zeria Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and its co-marketing Partner Kyowa Hakko Kirin Co., Ltd.

2010           Tillotts Pharma AG moves its Headquarters from Ziefen (BL) to Rheinfelden (AG) in January 2010.
